Commodore 64 Switchless ROM (Breadbin Version)

$25.00

NOTE: If you select JiffyDOS, you’ll need to be sure that you’ve purchased a JiffyDOS license otherwise you’d be running on an unlicensed ROM. Licenses can be purchased from Retro Innovations for $8.00

This ROM replacement for the Commodore 64 will give you the ability of utilizing the RESTORE button to switch between ROMs. The most common configuration is to have the original Kernal ROM and JiffyDOS to swap between but there are other Kernals that could be utilized instead. If you need other Kernals then please let me know when you check out.

To function, you’ll only need to make sure that you’ve got your board prepared by having a socket for your Kernal ROM and then solder 2 wires to the board and then to the replacement Kernal ROM.

You can also choose not to solder the wires and just use the ROM as a drop in replacement to replace your existing Kernal

If you want a different ROM combination please let me know in the NOTES field when you check out.

Chris, In the description, it says “To function, you’ll only need to make sure that you’ve got your board prepared by having a socket for your Kernal ROM and then solder 2 wires to the board and then to the replacement Kernal ROM.” I bought this from you, but there is no information about where to solder the 2 wires. Can you help?

      Hi Michael,

It basically comes down to soldering a wire to each of the 2 pads on the bottom of the chip. 1 needs to go to the reset and the other to the restore points on your C64’s motherboard. They are labeled on the bottom of the chip.

As for the locations on the motherboard, you can reference the images here https://git.fletchnet.xyz/cfletcher32/c64-switchless-rom-quad-shortboard

They are intended for the Quad ROM but the Restore / Reset points you are looking to solder to will be pointed out in those images.

      Hope this helps.
